About Us

Who We Are

We are but one branch of the Australian Labor party. Labor party branches are organised by federal electorate, and we are in the electorate of Hotham. We are the most active branch in our electorate, with 130 members and monthly attendances of between 30 and 50 members.

The ALP is founded on a belief in social justice, human rights and care for our environment, and our branch shares these principles.

What We Do

We gather monthly to discuss the issues of the day. At our meetings, we hear a speaker on some current event of the day - refugees, public housing, childhood education. or something more light-hearted - and then have “general business”, where everyone gets to have their say. We typically send off several letters to the powers that be expressing the views and concerns of the branch, and lobby the party and government for change on issues important to us. All members are mailed or emailed minutes from every branch meeting.

In between branch meetings, many of our members are active within the community and the Party, and we are well represented in various community organisations and are sure to have a presence at any protest.

Several times per year we organise functions such as our annual BBQ or pre-election fundraisers. These are always a lot of fun.
